Meet the Artist
Luey Graves (born London, 1987) is an artist who draws, paints, writes and prints. She studied at the Slade School of Fine Art and the Royal Academy Schools, where she held the Paul Smith Scholarship.
Her practise is informed by art history, literature and folklore and her work often refers to intimate experiences hidden from view: the pain of endometriosis; shock at sexist comments in an art school crit; chance encounters with 1980s sitcoms.
Luey has been awarded both the Gordon Luton Award for Painting and the Land Securities Studio Prize. Her publications include A Short Affair (2018) and the Iris Murdoch Review (2024) and recent exhibitions include The Bell, The Bell, Taymour Grahne Projects, 2024; Perspectives, Petronilla Silver at 8 Holland Street, 2023; 8, curated by Luey Graves and Katy Kirbach, Sydney Mews, 2022. She lives and works in south London.
