She of the Sea is a lyrical exploration of the call of the ocean and the depth of our connection to it, rooted in the author's personal experience living on the coast of the Celtic Sea, in Ireland.

This book spans from coastal plants to the colour blue, pebbles to prayer, via shapeshifting and suicidal ideation, erosion and immersion, cold water swimming and water birth, seaweed and cyanotypes, from Japanese freedivers and Celtic sea goddesses, selkies to surfing, and mermaids to Mary.

It is a strange and wonderful deep dive into the inner sea and the Feminine, exploring where the real and the magical, the salty and the sacred meet, within and without, and what implications this has for us as both individuals... and a species in these tumultuous times.

Dreamlike, meditative, poetic, She of the Sea is a love song. To the ocean. To becoming. To magic. To freedom.

With contributions from thirty sea-loving artists, musicians, cold water swimmers, mothers, environmental educators, witches, mermaids, priestesses and writers from around the world, who share their love for the stretch of ocean they call home, from Ireland to the Caribbean, via the Mediterranean and the North, the Pacific and the Atlantic.

She of the Sea is the featured title of our September 2022 Book Club.

Praise

Praise for She of the Sea

This book will transform and reinvigorate your relationship with the sea. A delicious sea-scrap book, Pearce weaves myths and science into an enveloping net, and empowers the reader to return to the sea, informed and enchanted.
Alice Tarbuck, author of A Spell in the Wild

‘She of the Sea’ is a devotion to the sacred depths and breadths of the sea. If you have ever felt or heard the call to dip your toes in the salty liminal space between the ocean and earth, you’ll find this book a beautiful reminder of all that you can find there. It’s part personal journey of Lucy’s deep connection to the sea and part guide – with a focus on the feminine – to explore the many facets of Her divinity, lore, attributes, activities and transformation.
As someone who also feels the call of the sea, Lucy’s book feeds my soul with the spirit of the sea through poetry, journal reflections and the words woven with the very essence of the deep, blue Divine.

Lyn Thurman, author of The Inner Goddess Revolution

‘She of the Sea’ is a treasure trove of watery reflection. When we write about our watery experiences, like our dreams they can disappear on waking and in stepping back into ordinary reality. She of the Sea allows you to linger, to immerse yourself fully, to wander the shoreline of your experience, knowing you have arrived home.
Louise Tarrier, author of The Way of the Sea Priestess

Gina Martin author of the When She Wakes trilogy

Womancraft Publishing is proud to celebrate not just the words, but the images of talented women too.

LUCY H. PEARCE paints the inner world of dreams, archetypes and pure energy, featuring on the cover of Creatrix, Reaching for the Moon, Moon Time and She of the Sea.

Symbols emerge which speak the language of the soul – the moon, spirals, trees, cherry blossom, feathers, birds and women’s bodies in all their beauty. Colours and energies shimmer and swirl: there is a sense of flow and meditative movement in her paintings that demands contemplation from the viewer, a shifting to another state of being.

Using a multi-layered intuitive painting technique, she builds up layer upon layer of rainbow colour: her paintings evolve from abstraction to dreamlike imagery. Her recent work incorporates her love of zentangles.
